Advice on itinerary – try try again

My husband, 15 yr. old daughter, and I are traveling to several destinations in Europe next June. We will be there between 17 – 19 days, travel by train (flexi pass), with one carry on bag each, and are all physically fit. The must do’s for our trip are Brussels (friends there), Munich (friends there), and Sorrento (family there).

Previously I posted our overly ambitious itinerary and thanks to all you helpful travelers have scaled back quite a bit (including now flying “open jaw”). Here is the latest version and again I appreciate any/all advice.

Thanks – Michelle

(1) fly into Amsterdam – 2 days; (2) train to Brussels to see friends – 4 days; (3) night train to Munich (including Salzburg in this leg) – 4 days; (4) train to Naples (via Rome) to see family in Sorrento (Pompeii and Amalfi coast included in this leg) – 5 days; (5) train to Rome – 2days and fly home from Rome.

Congratulations on a fun, if pared down, itinerary! Two thoughts only:

You have two very long train trips. I would at least price airfare for one or both of them.

Is that a Eurail flexi pass? Seems like point-to-point would be cheaper.

Probably you have thought about both of these points and have your reasons, but I thought I'd mention it since you asked for advice.

Have a great time!

Michelle, that itinerary looks great. And you'll still have Venice and Tuscany for another trip. Way to go!

It's still a lot of time spent on the train, but you have some non-negotiables that are causing that. You've done a great job of pairing that down.

One thing to keep in mind is side trips. Feel free to take a day trip to Neuschwanstein when you're in Munich, for example. But don't pack more than one side trip per hotel/family/friends stay into your schedule.
