Advice on hostels and car rental

Has anyone ever stayed at the LA City Hostel in Fuessen, Germany or the Valley Hostel in Lauterbrunnen, Switz? If so, are they appropriate for me? I am 54yo, traveling with my 24yo daughter.

Also, has anyone ever used autoeurope.com to reserve a rental car?

The Valley Hostel in Lauterbrunnen seemed a fairly sedate place - family run, and the clientele seemed to be mostly quiet young Asian adults when I was there. I didn't actually stay there - I had confirmed shortly before arrival but they still screwed up my reservation. However, the owner called around and found an apartment nearby that worked out well for us.

As for Füssen, there are many small B&B operations that compete in price with hostels and would surely provide a more enjoyable experience. Here's the local tourist office list of accommodations:

  • Pull down "English" at the top right where it says "Deutsch".

-Under "Area", select "Zentrum" for center or make no selection to see all areas of Füssen. You'll get several pages of accommodations options. Look for "Haus", "Gästehaus", "Garni", "Pension", or just someone's name for the less expensive accommodations - several are in the 20-30 Euro each price range for B&B

Yes, I know the bathrooms are shared and I'm not too crazy about that, but as long as they are segregated by sex, I can live with it. We actually have booked private rooms rather than the dorms in both places, but now that the time is drawing nearer I'm getting nervous about it wondering if I'll get any sleep.

Joy - i just scanned a few reviews on both hostels and it looks like you made good choices. Many reviews on the LA City hostel comment about how it is much more like a B&B than a hostel. I would take some earplugs as the previous poster suggested. You may or may not need them, but they are good just in case.

Joy,
We will be using AutoEurope for the 8th time in the last 11 years for trips to Great Britain, Ireland, Italy and in May, France. I cannot say anything but excellent things about them. Their rates are consistently the best, their service is responsive and extremely helpful and professional, and have been accomodating in many ways. I would not use any other service/agency to rent a car in Europe.
