Advice on getting to Orly Airport!

Hi everyone! We are staying in Paris, and once we leave we are heading to Orly to pick up a rental car to head to Switzerland. I'm having a difficult time figuring out the best option of getting to Orly. We'll be staying near the Ecole Militaire metro stop, and we are a family of 4 with two girls in Elementary school. The RER even seems a bit pricey. I'm stumped. Would love your thoughts!!! Thanks!

My guess is that the RER is your best bet for economy travel. But what you might consider is having just one person take the RER to the airport, pick up the car and drive back to where the rest of you are staying to pick you up before traveling on. You'll have to decide if the time and stress of doing that is worth more than the cost of all of you taking the RER. In my opinion, time is usually worth more than money on a trip, so I'd rather save time and consider the cost as money well spent because it contributes to seeing or doing something that makes for a great travel experience. Cost is fleeting. Memories last forever. Have a great trip. (Lucky girls!)

We stayed in Le Marais, four of us, and took the RER to Orly for our rental pickup. Easy to get there, get vehicle, and get out of Dodge.

If you run out alone to get the car, it'll be three hours at best before you get back to pick up the mob, plus you'll be on the wrong side of town to head to Switzerland, so there goes another hour. If the kids are of the age that they have to have rer tickets, a cab will be about the same price. If you go this route, have the hotel set it up.

If you avoid using the Orlyval, you can save some money. Take Metro line 8 to Invalides, the RER C to Pont de Rungis, and the Orly shuttle bus to the airport. The adult fare from Ecole Militaire to Pont de Rungis is €4.10. The fare for children under 10 is €2.05. The fare for the airport shuttle bus is €2.50.
