Advice needed for Western Switzerland

I'm planning a 2-week, June 2014 trip to Switzerland. This will be the 3rd visit, having been to Basel, Zurich, Luzern, Lake Geneva, St. Moritz, and the amazing Lauterbrunnen Valley. On this trip, we will be visiting Schaffhausen (to see the falls), somewhere in Western Switzerland yet to be determined (this is where I need some suggestions), then on to Wengen, Zermatt, Lugano, Rigi, and Zurich. Does anyone have a suggestion for Western Switzerland for 2 nights? It would be between our stays in Schaffhausen and Wengen. I am looking for a small to mid-size town, love history, interested in culture, and of course, the scenery. We will be traveling via train.

I particularly like Martigny for its strategic location on the nod of Valais. Neuchâtel makes a good base to explore the Jura region.

Martigny is a good suggestion but it doesn't fit between Schaffhausen and Wengen. Neuchâtel would be a better fit. Or you could put Rigi in there, before Wengen, and visit Martigny as a slight detour on your way to or from Zermatt. Kandersteg would be another place to include. Stay up at the lake, in the rustic Hotel Oeschinensee. Younwill be serenaded by cowbells in the evening and awake to a gorgeous view of the lake and cliffs. Www.oeschinensee.ch
