Advice for Spring Break Trip to Munich, Mar 25-31, 2013

I am planning a family Spring Break trip, arrival Munich 11:00am on Mar 25 and departure 4pm on March 31. Is it realistic to cover a loop by train from Munich to Salzburg, Innsbruck, Lindau, Fussen (Neuschwanstein Castle), and back to Munich by train and still have enough time to see Munich? Do you recommend rent a car? Do we need to make reservations for castles? How will be the weather in the last week of March? Any travel tips will be appreciated. Thanks. Ying

It would be difficult to make the loop by train. Some bus travel would be required. A rental car would certainly be better for such scenic views, and the roads are easily driven. Your loop is do-able in the time allotted. The winter weather usually breaks the end of March and first of April, but weather can be still variable. You'll still need to carry a coat.
My best suggestion is to find really good Bed and Breakfasts to stay in. You could stay in one around Salzburg and another on the other side of Innsburck, and just do day trips from those two locations.
