Advice for Hotel in Paris or CDG

My husband and I will be travelling by train from Bayeaux to Paris on July 11 and will be staying in Paris until the morning of July 13 at which time our flights leaves CDG at 7:00 am (Iceland Air). We were thinking that it might be best to get a hotel out by the airport and take a train into the city for any visiting that we want to do. We have been to the city previously but would like to walk around and visit some familiar places. Can anyone suggest an economical hotel? Are we correct in assuming that we are best to stay at the airport. Any suggestions are welcome.

We've stayed at the Ibis and Etap hotels at CDG. Both owned by Accor hotels, there are two locations....one Ibis is right at the RER station near Terminal 3 (so very close to the CDGVal pilotless train that takes people from terminal to terminal), while there is another Ibis and an Etap are at what they call CDG 2, about a 15 minute shuttle ride from the RER station (for terminals 1 and 3) and Terminal 2. Being that your flight leaves so early, you may want to look at the first-mentioned, since I don't believe the shuttle from the other 2 will allow you to make it to the terminal 2 hours before takeoff.

Thanks for the advice. This is what we were thinking and just take a day trip into the city and spend the day just walking around revisiting the places that we have the most interest in. This would allow us as you say to be close to the airport for our 7 am flight.

If you book an Ibis hotel room 30 or more days ahead of time, there is a reduced rate available. Look for it on the Ibis website as "Happy 30".
