Hello, I have located a GB train for our travel. I prefer the "saver" fare to the "standard" fare. Do I need to rush to purchase tickets (it is date and time specific) or can I wait on this decision and purchase later and still be assured of access to the saver ticket price and time? Thanks for any advice you can provide. Travel is scheduled for July 27. Fare is about 49 euro per person. BTF
Even though you use the generic BERLIN and PRAGUE for your query, the connection should say specifically "Berlin Hbf (tief)" and "Praha hl.n. (Hlavni Nadrazi)". "Tief" is German for "deep". The long distance trains leave from the very bottom level of the Berlin Hauptbahnhof.
The Euro-Spezial fares used to be just to Praha Holesovice, another train station north of the main station, hl.n. The train ended at Holesovice and you could only get to hl.n. using local transport (U-Bahn, trams), which are not included on the Euro-Spezial, so that fare did not show up if you put in Praha hl.n.
Thanks! Second question: There were many choices for train stops. I priced the BERLIN to PRAGUE option. Is that correct? I assume that means I leave from the main Berlin train station and arrive at the main Prague train station???? I am staying centrally in each city so I do not see that as a problem. It also prices as the fastest and without connections. BTF
In March, I purchased "saver" tickets from Berlin to Prague for the month of June. I think they are offered three months in advance and was told they go fast.
I especially wanted the "saver" tickets because not only are they cheaper, but you are able to print them at home, saving any shipping costs and shipping problems. The "standard" option doesn't allow printing at home.
Several people on this site helped me. I had trouble in the beginning because the train reservation site didn't offer any "saver" tickets the first time I tried. A day or two later they were available. Don't know why. Good luck
Jerry, I was allowed to print both my standard and saver tickets at home. The saver tickets sell out fast. Buy ASAP. The advantage of the standard is that you have more flexibility. With the saver, if you need to change or miss a connection, you are stuck.
"if you need to change or miss a connection, you are stuck."
Not entirely. Before the travel day, you can refund the ticket less €15. You can also exchange the tickets for €15 plus the difference between the discounted ticket and the standard fare, which is really the same thing as getting a refund and paying full price for the new ticket. I don't know whether you can do this at a ticket counter or only online.

Cate,
I purchased the tickets in March 2010, on www.bahn.de and the standard tickets did not have a print-at-home option. It did for the "saver" option only.
Which site did you purchase the tickets from?
