Dordogne region.....Looking for a gite with two bedrooms for one week in mid October. Does anyone have any suggestions for a gite located in a village? I have researched and have had little luck finding one within walking distance of a bakery, market and restaurants. We will have a car but really want to be able to walk into town in the evenings for dinner and in the morning for fresh bread.
Did you check out Gites de France?: http://www.gites-de-france-dordogne.com/
We've used them for 20 years, and while most gites are rural, there are generally many in at least smaller villages that will still have a bakery and a restaurant or 2. So you may not find any in Sarlat, for example, but maybe smaller villages like Domme. For example, we recently stayed at 4 gites for 4 weeks, and all were right in villages that had some shops.
I would second Robert's post. Gites de France are great! I have rented many gites in France and it is very possible to find something in the Dordogne with walking access to basic services.
Thank you! GDF is good ...
