We're planning a short trip in May-June of 2009 and would greatly appreciate any recommendations for lodging in these 2 wonderful cities. There will be 4 of us traveling together. We are sooo looking forward to this trip.
Thanks!

Rick's book Germany & Austria has many recommended accommodations for both places. You can also find many here: http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/gbr/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm
In Vienna, Hotel Pension Franz: http://www.hotelpensionfranz.at/english/info_e.htm.
In Salzburg, Hotel Goldene Krone: http://www.hotel-goldenekrone.com/default.htm. (Used to be in Rick's book. We were there in 2004--not sure if it's still in the book.)
I would highly recommend both of them. Both are in great locations and served wonderful breakfasts.

We were in these cities for about a week in early June 2007. Hotel in Salzburg was Hotel Weisse Taube -- terrific location near Mozartplatz and bus stop, good value and helpful owner. In Vieena, Hotel Hotel Ibis Wien with no character is a little sterile, but is located near train station and a main subway stop and had extensive breakfast buffet selections. I hope you enjoy these cities, we certainly did.

For price and location the several Ibis hotels are hard to beat. For a lovely stay in a small, quiet 'boutique' hotel near major routes I can recommend Hotel Jäger in Hernals.
My wife and I stayed at the Zellerhof Bed & Breakfast which was a short bus trip to downtown Salzburg. Great place with wonderful full breakfast items. Dorsey
in Salzburg, Pension Bergland--Peter Kuhn is a delightful host, very clean and quiet
Look on www.tripadvisor.com
We have also stayed in the Bergland Hotel.

It is in new Salzburg about 10 minutes walk from old town. Our stay was very nice with good breakfasts. We had to reschedule a following stop. The Bergland concierge got on the phone and resolved it for us.
The Bergland was closed for a while this spring while they remodeled. The rooms were good before, so I suspect that they will be even better now.
We would be happy to stay there again.
Regards, Gary
In Salzburg, we like Haus Reichl-it is in Rick's Germany Austria book. The rooms are spacious and reasonable (55 Euros a night) You can walk to the bus stop and an all day pass is less than 4 euros. We have stayed there twice and really like the owners and the rooms. We have also stayed at Pension Bergland. We liked it, but since the dollar has fallen so much, it is no longer in our budget range. (We stayed there in 2001)
Thanks to all for your replies. We've completed our reservations and ended up choosing Hotel Weisse Taube in Salzburg and Vienna City Center apartments in Vienna.
We looked at several nice places, including the ones mentioned.
Enjoy!
Sorry. Should have posted their websites. Thanks again to all who replied.

A perfect post for me - I am looking for a good hotel in Vienna for November 14th-15th. We are renting a car (we're doing lots of countryside travel before and after) so I'd like to stay somewhere that parking is not more than 20 euro/day and somewhat close to the city center so that we can enjoy some late dinners. Also, does anyone know anything about attending balls there? There is a Golf Ball being held the 14th, but I'm not sure how to go about getting tickets. Thanks!
