We stayed at Hotel la Residence in Lyon in January and liked it very much. It was 81 Euro for a large, very clean room located on a pedestrian street near the Perrache train station.
Hotel des Celestins was our first choice but it was booked when we tried to reserve.
We really enjoyed our stay in Lyon and hope that you will too!

Hotel Celestins is in Rick's guidebook, and was great last summer. The location can't be beat, and the rooms and breakfast were fine. The AC helped in Lyon, which can be a humid cooker in summer.
