Accomodations in Eguisheim

Has anyone stayed at Alexandre Freudenreich's Chambre d'hotes in Eguisheim, and if so were they the rooms in town or in the vineyards? We are planning on staying in this area for 6 nights in September, will have a car and really don't want to stay in Colmar. Any other personal experiences with accomodation in this area would be very welcome, as well. Thank you.

I have not stayed at the Chambre d'hotes that you mentioned, but my husband and I have stayed at the same Chambre d'hotes in Eguisheim twice; once in 1996 and again 2000. It was a Rick Steves recommendation at the time. The woman only speaks French. Her name is Rene Dirringer, and her address is 11 rue du Riesling, 68420 Eguisheim. Her telephone number is 89 41 71 87. I believe she rents out 3 or 4 rooms on the second and third floors of her charming 3 story home in the center of town in Eguisheim, if she is still in business. Breakfast was included. The bathroom was in the hallway of each floor, and only shared by 2 rooms each. Her prices were very reasonable at the time, and we were very pleased with our accommodations.

We stayed at the Hotel Winzenberg in Blienschwiller a few years ago. It's very reasonably priced (48 euros for a deluxe double), and very charming. A good breakfast is included.
