We have a short stay over in Frankfurt,Germany on Sept 16th.arriving at 2245hrs and leaving at 0945hrs on the 17th for our flight back to Canada.
Anyone have any suggestions as to where we can stay for a short sleep, other than sitting in an the airport for 10hrs
On two "next morning" flights (albeit not quite this early) out of FRA, I have stayed in Mainz, across from the Hauptbahnhof, from which the fare is €3,60 per person. The S-Bahn runs every 30 minutes and there are several regional trains in between. The trip takes 24-27 minutes.
There are three hotels, Hammer, Schottenhof, Königshof, right across the Bahnhofplatz from the Hbf. All are convenient and reasonably priced. I've stayed both times at Schottenhof, but I think I would prefer Königshof.
I'll also be staying in Mainz and have in the past (many, many years ago- lived there for six years) the night before leaving. There are some hotels pretty close to the airport (not my cup of tea but with your timeframe, they might be worth doing). I wouldn't stay downtown Frankfurt, though- if you do that, you might as well stay in Mainz.
There's a small town near to the airport called Kelsterbach ( sp?).
There are a chain of reasonably priced hotels there the NH Hotel chain.
They have free minibuses leaving regularly from FRA airport.
They are nothing spectacular but they are good enough when you have a short layover.
I was in the same position last Saturday. Our flight from Istanbul got in around 9:45pm and our flight the next morning to NY left at 8:30. Since we had been traveling for a full month, I did not want to drag my wife and kids into getting on a train and going somewhere only to get 4-5 hours of sleep. So I ended up booking the Sheraton at the airport - this is pricey but very convienent. It helped that I have SPG points so got the room relatively cheaply.
if you are interested in comfort, the Sheraton is great. We have stayed there a couple of times and had a good night's sleep. It is expensive compared to some of the other chains, but there is no taxi ride, just a short walk from arrivals. Easy to transport luggage.
They also had a great breakfast--though more and more german hotels are eliminating the free breakfast. We ate dinner in the Hofbrau in the lower level of the airport--that's not the real name, but close enough. Looks sort of kitchy.
