Hello all, I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for accommodations in Munich Germany. I'm on a bit of a tight budget, but at the same time I'm not limited to hostels. Are there any nice, clean, affordable places in a good area (around attractions) that anyone has been to?
Meg, It's difficult to recommend "affordable" lodgings without having some idea of your price range. As you noted, the absolute cheapest rates will be in Hostels. You might have a look at the HI Hostels website, as they appear to have three properties in Munich and area. It might be necessary to have an HI membership, which will provide cheaper prices and preferred booking over non-members. If you'd prefer hotels (which of course will be more expensive), you could have a look at Hotel Uhland or Hotel Royal. Both provide exceptional breakfasts, and the latter is VERY close to Munich Hbf so a very convenient location. It's an easy walk from the Hbf to Marienplatz and the main sites, or you could take the Metro (I find that walking is about as fast, by the time you buy tickets, get down to the tracks and wait for the next train). Happy travels!
Hi, When will you be in Munich? I stayed once at the Wombats hostel in Munich, ca 2 mins from the train station...good. Very convenient since an internet/call shop was right next store.
Hi thank you everyone for your replies! I will be in Munich around the 30th of August. And my price range is under €100 per night.
Meg, End of August - I'd suggest getting something booked SOON! You may have to settle for a Hostel. You might also have a look at www.wombats-hostels.com/munich/rates/ as it gets good ratings from travellers. I don't believe there are any age limits, unless you're younger than 16. I find that a 4-6 bed dorm is the most convenient, although they have double rooms also. The rates should easily fit your budget. Have you stayed in Hostels before? There are a few things to be aware of. Good luck!
Give Motel One a try. Decent decor, and really decent prices. Usually around 59 € per night. Breakfast and wifi as a combination are 7.50 € per day. A bargain, if you like drinking more than 1 coffee in the morning. Just coffee at a cafe will set you back 2-3 € per cup.
I've created a webpage on Munich, including, near the bottom of the page, a listing of hotels that other people on this site have recommended. I've yet to stay at any of them (I normally stay in a German-speaking-only hotel in the suburbs), but all of them have been recommended on this site.
Meg- for 100€ per nite you can get some nice digs located very close to the old town area or someplace around the Englisher Garten. Go to Booking.com
TODAY and follow the instructions. (Enter exact dates, # of persons, price range) When you select several hotel alternatives come back and ask for comments on your selections. Have a good trip!
I've stayed at Hotel Uhland several times. It's about 6 blocks from the train station and about 3 blocks to a subway station. With the subway, I can go anywhere. The hotel is in a residential area and very quiet.
