accommodations along french riveria

Will be in Monte Carlo in Sept 2013 (disembark river cruise), but the grand Prix is on. Does anyone have suggestions where to stay ( along ocean ) that is far enough away from the Grand Prix.

Karen, Nice would be my choice as it's "along the ocean, has a great old town area and some good Museums. As the Grand Prix will be on at that time, it would probably be a good idea to pre-book accommodations well in advance as Hotels throughout that area may be busy. Another possibility would be to stay in Villefranche, as it's closer to Monaco & Monte Carlo. You might find it helpful to have a look at the France or Provence & The French Riviera Guidebooks to get some idea on which area would best fit your criteria. You can travel via train from Monaco-Monte-Carlo station to Nice Ville (about 20 minutes). I'd suggest a Taxi from Nice Ville to your Hotel (depending on where your Hotel is located). You could also travel by Bus, but the train might be easier with luggage (as I recall, Bus fare is only €1 each way). You might have a look at Hotel Suisse to see if that might work for you. Happy travels!

Karen as Ken said, pre book as far in advance as you can. I make sure a hotel has a good cancellation policy, and book early, then if I find something better late I can cancel and rebook easily. Read the fine print.
It will be busy and the gems and finds type places will book up fast.

Ken has given you some excellent advise. Hotel Suisse is a winner.

I am super confused. Clearly there are no motorsport aficionados in the two prior answers LOL... Karen, you are going in September according to your OP. The Formula 1 Grand Prix of Monaco is always the last weekend of May. I just checked my race calendar for next year and it still is. You can't mean the WRC - World Rally Championship. The Monaco race is always the first of the season, in the mountains above Monaco. I just checked my race calendar and it is next year too, in January (can't wait). You said you are on a river cruise - other than the tiny river that comes down out of the mountains through Nice I can't think of a decent sized river for many miles near Monaco in either direction. The Camargue is hours away. You asked to be on the ocean. The Atlantic Ocean is hundreds of miles from Monaco. It is on the Mediterranean Sea, but that is a far cry from an ocean. So... I'm sure this sounds harsh but the question just confuses me. Did you mean somewhere else that had a Grand Prix? The only European Grand Prix in September 2013 is in Italy. Is that what you meant? It is at Monza near Milan on the 9th September... I'd love to help...
