Many people have recommended that I visit Trier when I come to Germany at the end of the month, but hostelworld doesn't have any hostels listed for the town and I have been having difficulty finding a cheap hotel using Google. Does anyone have any suggestions for cheap accommodation for two nights in Trier?

Hotel Monopol is a basic, reasonably-priced hotel. It is right across the street from the train station. We stayed there one night and it was fine. While they will take credit cards, they much prefer cash
Check out the Hotel Reservation Service. Users rate every hotel. The website gives the price as well as the distance to the train station. I have found the rating system pretty tough so I have been comfortable with it. You will get an email confirmation that spells out the terms clearly to minimize future confusion.
I guess it depends on what "cheap" is. The very nice Mercure hotel in Trier is available for 66 Euro per night...just under $100.
