We are looking to spend 2 weeks in Germany,(Romantic road, Rhine Valley, Munich) France (1 or 2 nights in Eastern France, Bergundy area) and Switzerland (Gimmelwald, Geneva/Lugano too) in July. We'll be driving. We are wondering if we could get by on NOT making a room/apartment reservations in these areas? We prefer to have the flexibility to linger in a spot that we are enjoying, rather than being restricted to a set itinerary. Any thoughts as to weather this is wise or not during the high season? Thanks. Suzie
At least for Switzerland, I can say that it depends on your budget - you will always find something it is just a question of cost! I live here and often do trips at the drop of a hat during the summer, but when I do I'm expecting to pay about CHF 110 per night for a 2 star including breakfast.
You should definitely make reservations in Gimmelwald if you want to stay there. There are very few options, most of them listed by Rs, and they book up early.
Thank you for the your comments. So, if I read your email correctly, if we keep to the two star b&bs we'll be fine. If that's the case, that's perfect.
