a week plus in Burgundy ..

we want to visit the village / commune of Epoisses (for the cheese) and then head South to home base somewhere in the Beaune area for a week. Can anyone recommend a 2 or 3 star hotel? We want comfort and cleanliness, but we don't want to break the bank for a place to sleep! We're familiar with Chez Jeanette in Fixin, and we really like that place, but they only have 8 rooms, and sometimes they're hard to book! (Also they have a wonderful restaurant, and the wine cave across the street (Bertault) is great ... good tastings and tours)

This past October, we stayed at Au Soleil Levant Motel in Meursault which is 5 minutes from Beaune. It's your basic motor motel--nothing fancy. It's on the outskirts of the town in a quiet location. The vineyards and a campground are across the street. Breakfast was not included. There's a restaurant on the premises but it was not open when we were there. Try and contact them directly through their website. You can also check the Accor chain of motels. As you drive outside of Beaune towards Meursault, there is a traffic circle full of motels. I believe the Ibis is one of them. One Saturday evening we could not find a room and we were stuck with the last room at Hotel B&B, Beaune Sud. Cheap, yes. Would I stay there again, only if I have to. There are a lot of weddings in Burgundy on Saturdays. Therefore, it would be a good idea to reserve ahead or start looking early in the day.

Two more pieces of information might help people make recommendations: 1) Do you have a car? and 2) What is your price range? Everyone's definition of "break the bank" is different.

we will be driving ... and our price range is "two or three star" .... hard to be much more specific than that! We've tried a "one star" and the result was usually too much like camping out ... we tried a four star once ... and the result was an experience that was an absolute delight, but I'm not sure if we remember it more for the price or the ambiance!

More accurately, stars refer to amenities, not price or quality. Also stars are self-assigned,; there is no national organization that uses this rating indicator.
