My wife and I with another couple will be in Tuscany for a week in September. The only sure thing we have set is a reserved villa. After Tuscany we're headed to Northern Italy / Venice area to visit relatives and hang out for a few days.
We are thinking of spending 3-4 days in Prague to finish up our trip. Any suggestions on the best means to get to Prague from N. Italy- drive or train. We have not locked in what city we'll fly into or leave from. Any thoughts out there???
Mike, Travel from northern Italy to Prague is a considerable distance, and would take awhile by train, and longer by car. Your best bet would be an EasyJet flight from Milan / MXP to Prague - flight time 1.5-hours and fares currently as low as €39.99 (which I believe includes all taxes and fees). I'd suggest using open-jaw flights, and book the flight home from Prague (if possible - I didn't check the flight options from your area). Happy travels!
Definitely don't drive. There's several reasons for this: 1) You'll be charged an astronomical drop fee for taking a car from Italy into Czech Republic. 2) Gas is really expensive in Europe. 3) You don't want a car in Prague. You can walk or take a tram wherever you need to go. 4) Most rental companies won't let you take their cars into the Czech Republic. Do the math for train vs. plane.
While in Prague, drink and dine at the " Pimovar Novomestky" bier garten. The open-air roof restaurant is fantastic, and they serve the best Goulash in Czech. Located about a block from Wenceslas Square on the main Tram line.
3 years ago we took the overnight train from Venice to Prague. Left Venice around 7:00PM and arrived in Prague around 11:00AM.Was a great way for us to cover the distance w/o wasting too much daylight.
