A Rainy Day in Grindelwald

As of today, (8 days out from my arrival) it looks like my one full day in Grindelwald will be rainy. Any ideas on what to do when the weather doesn't cooperate there?

We were in Chamonix when this happened. We read, napped, and darted out to cafes when it wasn't raining.

As Rick often says, "there's no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing". In the same situation, I'd probably grab an Umbrella or rain gear, and try and do at least a bit of sightseeing. In larger cities, I focus more on indoor sights during inclement weather, such as Museums, Galleries or whatever. Good luck!

After living in England for a year, rain is no longer an impediment to my plans. Just add a poncho or umbrella! Grindelwald is beautiful, no matter the weather. Besides, the weather forecasts are only right about half the time!

Ken and Heidi are spot-on. Just get out there, dressed appropriately, and enjoy. I had similar a experience in the Canadian Rockies (Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper) a few yrs ago. It rained often there (was there in July) but I never let it interfere w/ my plans. Always had my Patagonia rain jacket in my day pak, and just got out there and enjoyed the spectacular natural beauty around me. I hope you catch a nice weather break, but if not, just prepare yourself propserly, and get out there! Have a great time.

"I bet you have been looking at a US based weather forecast." They may not have been, because weather.com says Showers every day for the next 10 days in Grindelwald. But it always says Showers in the Alps, whereas in actuality you sometimes do get decent days, at least in the mornings.

I guess some folks miss the point about certain weather sites, like Weather.com. They don't have stations in Europe, they buy the feeds from European agencies (and vice-versa). This being said, mountainous weather is always changing. I'd check more like 2-3 days to have an idea.

A rainy day in Grindelwald is better than ANY day at home!
