A one week base in Languedoc or western Provence?

Last year we stayed not far from Cassis, in La Cadiere d'Azur and were able to cover towns like St. Tropez, Cassis, Le Castellet, Gordes, Bonnieux, Aix and Bandol. This coming September, off a river cruise, Lyon to Arles, we wish to spend an additional week with a car. We need suggestions. I have looked at Mausanne les Alpilles, Lourmarin, Uzes, St. Remy area but really don't know "best, nicest" base. Wish to see the Camargue, Aigues Mortes, maybe Uzes and Nimes, and towns in the St. Remy area we never had a chance to before. Any good recommendations?

I can heartily recommend La Bastide St. Anne in Castillon du Gard. Quite simply, the nicest B&B we've ever stayed at. http://www.labastidesainteanne.com/ PM me if you have any questions...perfect for your needs just outside Uzes.

Agree entirely with above poster. We stayed there for 5 nights and it was wonderful. Great breakfast with view of Pont de Gard. Also convenient for driving anywhere in Provence, from Vaison sl Romaine to Foussillon. Not convenient, however to Languedoc/Dordogne area.
