Is is possible to take a scenic train ride between Monaco and Nice (or any better destination suggestions)? We have a few hours to spend while the cruise ship is in port. Does the train take the coastal route or the higher route? Any other ideas. Have been to Monaco previously so want to explore beyond....Thanks!

The train takes the coastal route. Trains don't go on the middle or high roads, where the big views are.
"So want to explore beyond" -- can you clarify what you mean by that?

If you have been to Monaco, you probably do not need to go again. Will the ship stop in Monaco or Nice? I would opt for Eze or Antibes. Check the RS book on Provence and the French Riviera. The train runs somewhat above the coast, but not on the "higher route" as I understand it. For a more coastal experience, there is regular bus service along the coast.
