A day trip in Cochem, Germany - Any ideas?

We have a down day before starting our tour and have decided to make a trip to Cochem on the Mosel. Any suggestions for 'what not to miss' in Cochem?

The town in general. Reichsburg castle, it's interesting although there is nothing of historical significance about the current reconstuction. Weingut Rademacher is right across from the Bahnhof. If you have time, Beilstein, although watch the bus schedule. Beilstein, although very picturesque, is a VERY small town with not much of interest. You might want to leave sooner than you think.

Reichsburg castle i agree is worth a visit, they a have an interesting falconry show too. Are you going to Burg Eltz on another day? if not it is not too far and really worth it!

Ditto the previous tips. The falconry show on the castle grounds at 11:00, 1, 2:30, and 4 is amazing. Photos: http://www.falknerei-reichsburg-cochem.de/fotobuch.htm From the castle there are great views of the town and river valley and a small outdoor cafe there too - similarly great views from the top of Cochem's chairlift ride and a nice outdoor cafe there too: http://www.cochemer-sesselbahn.de/en/index.htm Do spend some time wandering around the narrow streets of the old town, exploring the town's narrow alleyways, old walls and towers.

Thank you for confirming what we had anticipated. A special thanks for the photo / video links, Russ. I read that the falconer is not there everyday - we're hoping that our schedule with coincide with his. Thanks!

Hi Kathy, We were just in Cochem and we went to Burg Eltz one day and did a tour in the castle. We ate at the Ratskellar which was really good food and its
nice to sit outside. We also did the castle in Cochem but like Rick we liked Burg Eltz better and if you like to walk its a pretty hike up.
