It depends on what you are interested in whether or not you will find Frankfurt worth it. Do you like Medieval churches, museums, farmers markets, turn of the century architecture, classical music concerts or jazz, botanical gardens, festivals, art, strolling through leafy residential neighborhoods with streets lined with cafes and charming, unique stores? Historically, Frankfurt is well worth a visit, whether you would like to see where the German Kings and Emperors were elected and crowned, or where the first freely elected parliament was conducted, or if Jewish history in Germany is interesting to you, then you will be in the right place. The city has tons of fascinating gems it, but they just aren't quite as apparent as in some cities, you have to walk around and find them. Here are just a few suggestions, and if you would like museum suggestions, just ask me. Frankfurt Old town is interesting but relatively small. Start there, also there is the dom (cathedral?- not sure what they call it). Leading off the Old Town in one direction you are right at the river, in the other is a very large area of connected pedestrian malls and shopping ares. Pleasant to walk through. we also found some churches tucked away At Old Town there is the ratskeller and also a wine restaurant both with pleasant lunches and many places in the pedestrian mall. Worth it for spending the day

I hesitate to say yes or no. I think any European city is always worth a visit. Frankfurt because of the war destruction and how it was rebuilt is not as interesting as other cities but it still has things to offer. I would not spend a week there but if convenient for a day, do it.

Sure, it's worth a day. I did the same thing with a layover in late fall 2004. The cathedral and main square are nice. There are also some museums along the river. If you're there late enough in the fall, the Christmas market is fun. Frankfurt is in Germany's wine region if you like wine. I ate at and enjoyed a restaurant called the Twelve Apostles (Zwolf Apostel) if you want German food and beer (brewed on site). Since I was only there for a day, I stayed in one of the business hotels downtown, so I can't really recommend a hotel. Good luck.
