A Couple Days in Switzerland

My wife, 24 year old daughter and I will be traveling by train from Colmar France to Venice. We'd like to stop in Switzerland for a couple of nights. We are looking for an area in the mountains and to do some light hiking. Any suggestions as to where to stop. Does it make sense to stop in Interlaken? Any ideas Thanks

I say go for it, it's the perfect area to get a feel for the Alps. Interlaken is ok, but Lauterbrunnen, and some of the mountain villages like Gimmelwald, Murren, and Wengen, get you closer to the action.

Hi Pat, Hands down Gimmelwald! The best picture I can paint to describe it is... it's like Yosemite on steroids. A must see as far as I'm concerned.

We plan to do the same this spring (May). Traveling from Paris to Venice, we're stopping in the Gimmelwald area for 2 nights/3 days. It might be a tight schedule - but probably one of our only chances to stop in the (so I'm told) breathtakingly beautiful Lauderbrunnen valley area. I'd say go for it....we are!

Wengen was incredible, lovely hiking, scernery to die for, quaint pedestrian only town, but , hiking trails can still be closed or snow bound in some areas till late May or early June.

Zermatt was also lovely, but I think I would still do Wengen or Gimmelwald over Zermatt ( Zermatt is very expensive, not that is "cheap" Switzerland anywhere!)

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your comments. Looks like Gimmelwald is the winner. Pat
