We are looking for a club in Paris, one that might provide live music similar to Edith Piaf's or chanteuse style singing. We would prefer something authentic.

How about a good fake place? Sorry, couldn't resist...
But seriously, the night I ate at Au Cadet du Gascogne, there was just such a singer performing. The restaurant sits on the square just behind Sacre Couer. Now, was this "authentic" or just done for the tourists, I couldn't say (probably the latter). But my wife and I certainly enjoyed it.

Lapin Agile in Montmartre is exactly what you want. Costs about twenty-five euros for show and one drink.
Maybe a ten minute walk NW from the back of Sacre Coeur. Probably Rue des Saules a bit north of Rue St Vincent.
