My husband and I are going to drop off a car in Germany after 15 days of travel in Bavaria, Southern Bermany and Austria. We want to drop the car off in Germany and take a train through Switzerland flying out of Zurich in 7 days. If we drop off in Lindau, where should we start, do trains leave Lindau and cross into Switzerland? Any favorites, thought we would travel first to Appenzel? Thanks Barbara

If you drop the car in Lindau, you can take a boat across the lake to Rorschach and pick up a Swiss train to St. Gallen and into Appenzell right there. You might take a look at a Swiss rail map to plan your journey. Just Google "Swiss synoptic map" and you should find it easily. As for where to go after tha, it depends on your interests (hiking, boat trips, sightseeing, museums?) and the time of year. Also, do you wish to move from place to place each night, or pick one or two bases and daytrip from there? Luxury hotels, rustic, or something in between?
