has anyone experienced seeing partnach-gorge. it looks like the most beautiful place but i'm not sure how long or strenuous of a hike it is... we're in our 50s and not quite the most experienced hikers. looking more for the short abreviated verson to see the best sites :) any hints or advise most appreciated thanks !!!
The gorge path itself is less than half a mile, with little elevation gain, so not strenuous at all. Wear good non - slip shoes.
Hi Kathy! I hiked through Partnach Gorge last summer. Its a very easy hike, but the path is wet so wear decent shoes. You won't have any problems hiking through the gorge. The gorge itself is fairly flat, only a couple of places that are uphill. The only issue I had was how narrow the path is in places and there are people walking both directions. When you go, you will park down by the ski jump from the 1934 Winter Olympics and hike up to the entrance of the gorge. It's about a 10 minute walk and is slightly uphill the entire way. If you don't want to make the walk, there are horse drawn carriages that make the trip between. I'm not sure how much they are since I walked. Also, there is a guesthouse on the way where we stopped and got something warm to drink and apple streudel after our hike. You can also hike over the gorge, instead of back through it, which is a bit strenuous in places, but the views are great. At one point, you cross a rope type bridge directly above the gorge. Beautiful. If you hike over the gorge, I would ask for a map/directions at the entrance because there are a couple of turns to get back to the entrance. I believe they were marked fairly well but I had a guide, so I didn't pay close attention. There is a guesthouse along the way before the turns and I'm sure they could help you with directions.
awesome, thanks for your tips and advice. i can't wait to do this!!!
Kathy, go! It's stunningly beautiful, especially in cold weather when it's icy. It's not really a hike at all, more of a walk. The path dips in and out of rock formations where you might have to duck at times. You park your car near the old Olympic stadium and walk about a mile down a country road to get to it. One of my favorite places.
about how long do you think it would take to hike the gorge... from parking at the stadium hiking and back... curiously on roughly how much time to alot..
traveling around a lot and only scheduled to be in garmich for a short time.... thanks!
