We will be traveling from Paris to Bayeux in September and will stay in Bayeux one night. We want to tour the D-Day beaches and don't want an all day tour. I am thinking of the Caen Memorial tour which has a 5 hour tour and pass in the Caen museum. We plan on arriving in Bayeux in the morning, checking in at the hotel, and traveling to Caen for the afternoon tour, then back to Bayeux for the night. Anyone done this half day tour? How do we travel between Bayeux and Caen, round trip? Thanks everyone!
Jackie, You might also have a look at Overlord Tours, as they offer a number of half-day tours. Note that there's also an excellent WW-II Museum in Bayeux and of course the famous Bayeux Tapestry which is well worth seeing. You can travel between Bayeux and Caen via train (the trip is only about 15 minutes). Happy travels!
We just booked a tour with a guide, and she will meet us at the train station in Carentan in the morning and bring us back to Bayeux in the afternoon, so we can go to the museum and then either have dinner in Bayeux and take a late train back to Paris or take an earlier train back to Paris and skip the dinner in Bayeux. If you are staying in Bayeux for the night, you could probably reverse the order. But I don't, unfortunately, know anything about traveling between Bayeux and Caen, sorry.
Thank you for the info. We did look into Overlord tours and think that will be our choice. Thanks so much!
