We will be staying in Pergine Valdarno for one week and are intrested in traveling to Switzerland
( Gimmelwald area) Is it possible and if so how do we go about it?
Linda, I assume you're planning to stay in Gimmelwald for a day or two, as that trip isn't really feasible as a "day trip". If that's the case, it's certainly possible and travel by train is the best method. The nearest railway access to Pergine Valdarno appears to be Laterina (about 8 kM from Pergine). There are direct trains from there to Firenze SMN station (about 1 hour, depending on which train you use). The trip from Florence to Interlaken Ost is as short as 5H:33M, with two changes in Milan and Spiez (that's for a train departing at 08:55 - note that schedules are subject to change, so re-verify prior to your trip). Once you arrive at Interlaken Ost, it's a relatively easy trip to Gimmelwald - local train to Lauterbrunnen, Post Bus to Stechelberg and then one Cable Car ride to Gimmelwald. It sounds like a lot, but it's relatively easy. Happy travels!
