Would travelling in Spain at Christmas be fun? What areas would have good weather? We are not looking to sit on a beach. Cool weather is fine as long as it isn't too rainy or snowy. What areas would you recommend?
We stayed in Malaga city in Christmas 2011, first time we have ever been to Spain at christmas , we also did a little research before planning our trip and found out that on Christmas eve night places close early and people spend time with family, so it was essential we stayed at a good hotel that served a special dinner. Christmas day, a few shops and plenty of cafe bars and restaurants were open. Weather was great maybe around 19 degrees or so . Malaga city also has the added bonus of very spectacular christmas lights.
We would certainly spend christmas in Malaga again.
Think of the difference between Michigan and perhaps northern Florida or South Caroline. Same for Spain. The area along the Med will always be milder than around Madrid. Unfortunately no one can guess or forecast the weather. Two years ago over New Years we were in southern Spain - Cordoba, Seville, Grananda, and it was cool, overcast, and rainy most of the time. Could be hot and sunny next time.
