Ireland

The end of our trip, we will be in Ireland for three nites. I am thinking about rentaling a car so we can drive to see things. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to see and do? Is it possible to drive around the island? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you. Patty

It is certainly possible to rent a car and drive around, but no way could you drive "around the island" in three nights (two full days). If you are flying into Dublin, you could spend one day seeing the city and another on a daytrip out to Newgrange or the Wicklow Mountains. You'll probably find that a very short rental like that would cost a lot more than public transportation.

Patty,
I agree with Nancy, with only 3 nights (and probably only 2 full days) it doesn't make much sense to rent a car. You certainly could do it, if you've already been to Dublin and want to see a bit of the country. But if you haven't been to Dublin before I would suggest spending the 3 nights there. There is much to see there. We spent 3 days there and I would love to go back to see more. If you don't want to just see the city, you could take the DART (train) to either Howth or Dun Laoghaire, two harbor towns that are both nice and only a few kms from Dublin. I really liked Howth, it has a very scenic harbor, a very old church, some nice pubs, etc.. Fun to just stroll around. If you post your question on the "to the north" board also you'll likely get lots of ideas. Happy travels.

You can drive across Irealand in two hours. I would skip Dublin and to the small villages. Go to Doolin and stay at the twin pecks b &b . Go to the cliffs and then over to the ring of Kerry. Then look at gettin a plane out of cork or shannon
