My parents and I will be staying at the Hotel Jungfrau in Murren in June. We have a room viewing the mountains and was wondering about a few things. How are Alan and Veronika? Are they friendly? Will they help you with hiking plans and tell you where the best places to hike are. How nice is the weather in the Berner Oberland in late June? Anything we shouldn't miss? We have a superior room, is this big enough for 3 adults? Thanks!
Everybody there I met was friendly. They have a job to do and are often busy. They are happy to answer questions but if you need lots of questions answered there is a TI at the Sports Centre just up the road who are happy to answer questions all day long. You can get a free walking map at the TI and, more easily, at the train and lift stations. Most of the walks are spelled out in detail in Rick's Switzerland 2012 book. Weather can vary from day to day and hour to hour. You are in the mountains. If they have 3 beds in the room it is big enough for 3 beds. We enjoyed our stay at the Jungfrau very much, and enjoyed the view from our (small) balcony.
Brendon, you made a good choice with the Hotel Jungfrau! I stayed there last year and would absolutely stay there again. The location is super, right in the middle of the mountains. The staff was nice and very helpful. They did a bag of laundry (same day) for about 10 euro. The food in the restaurant was very good (especially the fondue) and there's a little bar and common room for relaxing. The weather was beautiful when we were there in early September and we hiked all over the place. Hope you have a great time!
According to the website, they superior rooms are double rooms with two beds. They don't say anything about adding a bed for a third person. Did you book a triple room? Or did you think you can put three people in the room just because it is larger? You cannot show up with 3 people for a double room.
Brendon, Believe prior post did not go through -- computers!! At any rate, the hotel is great. Be sure to check out Gimmerwald that is very close by and the North Face Trail that is also nearby and not all that hard even for "mature" people. If the weather is good, try to do the Schilthorn. All of the above are detailed in Steves' book. Hope this helps. TC
Go up the eiger! - there's a train. This trip will take you a few hours to/from murren. Hotel jungfrau's a nice place.
