I know Rick Steves likes the Rue Cler area for hotels but is the 6e area better for sightseeing? Also, any suggestions for hotels? Our budget is $200/night. Hotel Muguet, Hotel Palais Bourdon & Hotel de la Bourdonnais are some we looked at on the internet. thanks
I personally like the 7th. The Hotel Muguet is wonderful.
Both areas are good for sightseeing, plus with the Metro you can get to the sights so quickly that either is fine. The 6th is the St Germain area. But the only Michelin red guide hotel under $200/night for a double in the 6th is:De Sevres
We stayed at Hotel Du Lys last summer. We thought the location was great, and I think it is in your price range. It is very near the St. Michel metro stop, and walking distance to Notre Dame, Louvre, etc. The building is very old; I could see that some would describe it as historic and charming and others as old and rickety. There is no elevator and the stairs are narrow and twisty, so if you get a room near the top getting luggage up can be difficult.
The hotel Relais Bosquet in the 7th, is excellent.
