I'd like to thank everyone who responded to my question.
I have decided on Austria, Croatia, and Italy. I know Italy well but what are suggestions for places to visit in Austria, Croatia maybe Slovenia. Could you please recommend bed and breakfasts too? I usually stay in B&B's. I will have 22 days for my travel. Love small towns! I love to take pictures and am a amateur photographer.I am almost retirement age.

Virginia, There is a major train route that goes from Salzburg to Villach. At Villach the trains can either go east to Slovenia or west to Venice. The faster trains from Vienna often take this same route. So you can quickly go via train from Vienna to Salzburg and then take your pick of whether to go west or east. Keep that in mind if you're planning on going by train.
