D - Day Beaches

If I were to travel from Paris to Normandy with the intention of seeing the D day beaches, where should I stay? in Arromanches? is that the closest? How far is it by train from Paris to the D-day beaches?

We've always stayed in Bayeux, a charming village about 20 min from Omaha Beach. The train from Paris to Bayeux takes a little over 2 hrs. A RS France guide would be very useful, lots of good info.

There is no train service to Arromanches. Take the train to Bayeux, stay there overnight, and take an all-day guided tour in the morning. Many people on this site recommend D-Day Historian and Overlordtour. The standard 2nd class fare for Paris-Bayeux is €36.10. However, if you book well in advance (up to three months allowed) at www.tgv-europe.com, you can get a Prem's fare as low as €15.00.
