Does anyone have a recommendation for a fun New Years Event in the Alsace region of France or Black Forest region of Germany?

Sharon, the difference between France and Germany is that in Germany everybody can buy their own fireworks and blow them up at midnight. That means the entire sky is filled with fireworks. In France there is one central firework per city or location or so. Nice to watch but not as spectacular as in Germany. Even you could buy your fireworks anywhere in Germany on the 2 days before New Years Eve. Personally I find Freiburg to be a magnificent location for New Years... it's a students' town and so is the party ;-)
