You might consider staying in the Berner Oberland area. We spent 7 days in Lauterbrunnen and had no difficulty keeping busy. You can visit Jungfrau, Schilthorn and lovely towns in this area. There is also a wonderful gondola above Grindelwald but I can't remember the name. The hiking is also wonderful. We also stayed a week in the Luzern area and the mountains in this area don't compare with the Berner Oberland area.
We took a day trip to Bern from Lauterbrunnen - which was very easy and a nice way to spend a cloudy day.

Mont Blanc is best enjoyed from Chamonix, France. This is a great area to visit too but if you are wanting to concentrate on Switzerland then save Chamonix for another trip.
For sure you need to stay several days in Muerren or one of the other cute towns nearby. So much beauty there!

My vote goes for Berner Oberland area. Lots of variety, vistas and price ranges for lodging. Book soon as they fill up fast.

Do you have a copy of RS Switzerland Guide Book yet? If so, great. If not you can order one elsewhere on this web site
(see "Books"). It has plenty of very useful information that we used when we stayed in Switzerland last summer.

Charlie above is spot-on; Rick's Switzerland guidebook will help you a great deal. As you'll see, he'll point you to the Bernese Oberland region, and spells out, step-by-step, how to spend your time there, what to do, where to stay. Two "musts" (In my humble opinion!); the Jungfraujoch and Schilthorn/Piz Gloria; 2 of the Alpine highlights (and probably of most people who go there!) of my time there.

Thanks so much. I just picked up my copy of RS Switzerland. It was on back order at our local Barnes & Nobles...

We loved the boat cruise that starts in Interlaken and is free with a Swiss Pass. Lots of charming villages, mountains, a few castles and food and wine on board! You can hop on and off too! Then a quick 25 minute train ride back to Interlaken. Also enjoyed the Jungfrau trip...follow RS directions up and come back down through Grindlewald...beautiful!!
