We are disembarking from a river cruise on 8/28 and want to spend the day and night in Paris. Is there an area that is better to stay if we have an early flight? Also, what is the best way to get to CDG early in the morning?
Lois, In those circumstances, the method I'd use is to spend the day and early evening in Paris and then take the RER to CDG and stay at one of the airport Hotels. For example, there's a Sheraton Hotel right in Terminal 2, which is about the most convenient. With such an early flight, if you stayed in Paris you'd need to go to sleep fairly early, and be awake at about 04:00 for the trip to the airport. I'm not sure if Shuttles even operate at that hour? I believe the first RER departs Gare du Nord at 04:56. You'd need to find somewhere to store your luggage during the day. I believe there's luggage storage at Gare du Nord, which is convenient for connecting to the RER to CDG. Happy travels!
With a 7 am flight I would be in a taxi on my way TO the airport by 4am.. meaning getting up at an unholy hour,, lol . Allow 2.5-3 hours for airport hell,,, just saying.
Store your luggage at Gare du Nord for the day. There are both coin-operated lockers and staffed left luggage facilities. The hours are 06:15 - 23:15. Take the RER B from there to CDG. The last RER B train leaves Gare du Nord at 22:41. Here's a link to the Ibis Paris CDG Airport Hotel mentioned by Bets. It's located next to Terminal 3 and the CDG 1 RER B station. A stop on the free 24/7 CDGVAL driverless shuttle train that connects all the terminals is close by also.
If you have a 7:00am flight at CDG, I would stay at the airport. We have used the Novotel at Terminal 2. If you use the Internet and get an advance reservation, the price is usually less. While you may have no problems in getting to the airport from the city, I don't know if I would even try it. Just think of the extra minutes of sleep and the shower you might be able to get. Good luck!
Thanks so much for your valuable input. We got a room at the Ibis at the airport, so we'll be able to sleep a little later.
