Rick Steves talks about buying a European mobile phone to use while in Europe. Has anyone done that? We'll be in Paris for 2 weeks, staying in the Rue Cler area. Does anyone know of a phone store in that area? Does it make sense to buy a phone out there as opposed to renting one in the US? Thank you.
Isabel, I wouldn't suggest renting a phone, as that tends to be very expensive. Before offering any specific suggestions, it would help to know whether you presently have a Cell phone, and which network you're with? The options will differ, depending on your circumstances.
We have Sprint phones in the US, which we know will not work out there. We have gone to Europe before and rented a phone in the US to take with us, but that did turn out to be quite pricey. This time we're considering buying a pay-as-you-go phone in France, and I'm just wondering if anyone has had experience with that.
There's a Phone House at 41 Rue De Cler. For around 30€ you should be able to buy a phone and sim card with some prepaid minutes plus add minutes on the spot to suit your needs. Alternatively a Virgin store can do the same.
Thank you, Tex. That's the info I was looking for.
