Hi, my husband will be in Paris for business in early June. I plan to join him at the end. We plan to change hotels for cost and location (He will be near the Louvre at Clarion St. James Albany - not his choice). We plan to move to Hotel Muguet near the Eiffel Tower. We could use some advice on my arrival day. Flight arrives CDG at 7 am. I think I will take the RER and Metro to his hotel, shower and change clothes. Then we will have to check out by 11. Should we head to the other hotel right away or walk around the Louvre/Tuileries Garden first? We don't want to over do my first day. Any advice is appreciated.
If you are able to get to the hotel by 11:00, taking a shower would be a great idea. Then, I would leave my luggage at that hotel and walk around Tuileries. I probably would not go into the Louvre as it is exhausting, even with no jet lag. Also, sunshine helps you stay awake. Have a nice lunch then retrieve your luggage and head over to your new hotel when it gets close to your check in time.
Jodi Pairs is my very favorite city in Europe. You and your husband will have a great time! Carroll has great ideas for your first day! I have 2 other suggestions. * Depending on how you are functioning after your flight, take a taxi to your husband's hotel. After a half a dozen flights to Europe, I finally threw in the towel and said, I am not going to take the train to my hotel. I was disoriented, exhausted, and not sure what to do on arrival. *Your husband might consider asking the hotel to extend his departure by an hour or so in order for you to leisurely get ready for the rest of your day. A stoll in the Tuilleries Gardens is a wonderful way to start your trip! Bobbie

Thank you for the advice. I was thinking the garden would be a nice stroll and some lunch. Thank goodness my husband will already be adjusted to the time so someone will be clear headed at check in!
I agree to save the Louvre for another day. I like your plan of showering and cleaning up and then walking around the gardens near the Louvre. Maybe you could also walk up the Champs Elysees and back (with lunch, of course). Do go up the Arc the Triomphe since you've walked that far. Do have your husbands hotel hold your bags for you. Then head over to your hotel, check in, and maybe go to the Rodin Museum, which is near the Eiffel Tower. You'll get more sunshine and fresh air.
Have a great time!
