Has anyone stayed in the Hotel Opera or the Hotel Ateneo? We are going t Madrid in April and cannot decide which would be better. One is near Del Sol and the other is near the Opera which is further west of the center. Even after reading all of the review online, cannot decide.

My vote is for Hotel Europe, also in the RS guide..........I've stayed there four times, and recommended it to friends........and we all love it's central location -- you can walk, on one day, to the Royal Palace, and on the next day to the Prado.....the outdoor cafe, while not cheap, is a lovely spot for people watching. Have fun!

The Hotel Europa is one of the best hotels for the money we have ever used. It's right off the Plaza del Sol metro stop and has plenty of eating/drinking/shopping places nearby. The hotel's restaurant is also pretty good and convenient obviously. We have booked it again for this Sept.

Hotel Europa is amazing. Beautiful, clean and well located. Also very reasonable. You are in the center of everything.

Hi, Gretchen, I stayed at Hostal Monte Carlo off Grand Via twice. It is basic, clean, and safe. It is within center location.
