Thinking of spending a few days in/near Barcelona. I have been to Barcelona and don't remember it too well. Are there any day trips/sights nearby that are a must see. I have airline tickets on hold (using FF miles) that I need to issue and I have not been able to work out the details of the trip. If it wasn't for the ff tickets being available I'd take my time and research everything in detail BEFORE I commit to the airline tickets. I plan on spending a maximun of 5 days in the region. This is for travel in late March, early April. Any tips on Barcelona and the surronding region will be appreciated.
You might want to investigate the Dali sites - home and museum as well. There are web connections to both. Also, Girona - fascinating small city...and the Castle de Emporda - remote, but well worth a stay in one of the finest of its type. Also with a web site. The area of Pals is also lovely.
I would highly recommend an evening concert or the 50 minute tour of the Catalan Concert Hall (Palau de la Musica Catalana). The detail of the architecture is amazing. There is a small restaurant in the lobby if you arrive early or find it necessary to wait for an English speaking tour. The villages of Cadaquez, Girona, and Figueres are interesting and accessable by bus or train depending on your choice of village and are charming. The Hotel Colon or Hotel Regencia Colon located near the Cathedral are ideally located and there is a lovely Italian restaurant nearby...La Locandia, if I
remember correctly.
A day trip to Monserrat is a must, if you are into hiking do one of the hikes there, amazing views! You could take a wine tour to the Penedes valles. I also suggest the towns of Girona, Figueres and Cadaques. You will have plenty to do in 5 days for Barcelona and a daytrip or two.
