6 Hour Layover in Brussels.. What to do?

As the title succinctly expresses; I have a 6 hour midday layover in Brussels (flying from the States to Berlin). I plan to be back in the future, but any must see locations or watering holes? Cheers, Joe

Central Brussels is an easy train ride from the airport (I think about 20 min) - we stashed our carry-ons at the bus station attached to the airport (airport didn't have lockers). I think we had about 3 hours to roam the center plaza, have a coffee, see some quick sites from the outside, wander a few side streets - we were there very early, so the city was just starting to come to life when we needed to head back to the airport. Must be back at least 2 hours before your next flight, but that worked for us. I think it works best going TO Europe since there's extra security going to the States. We're not doing it in Lisbon on the way home with a 5 hr layover this year - still need to allow for 3 hrs for security, etc. (at least I do). Hope it works for you. Karen

There is the Grand Place for the old market square. Have a belgian beer or two on the square. Get a picture of the Manneken Pis. Ask where the Jenneken Pis is. That's about it.

If it's midday, have a nice lunch at a cafe in the plaza. I recommend the mussels and frites. You can stroll the central plaza area easily in an hour or so. Buy some chocolate.

Take the train into central Brussels as the others have suggested. Walk to the magnificent Grand Place, one of the finest old plazas in Europe. The Roy d'Espagne there is a unique restaurant and bar that is worth a visit if only for a drink. Nearby is Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert, an elegant shopping arcade, the oldest in Europe.
