Hello everyone, my wife and I will have 6 full days in Spain at the end of February. I know it's not nearly enough time to really see Spain but we were looking for suggestions on maximizing our time. We love historical sites and good food. We appreciate good art but can easily get too much (so just a few of the better art places?). Please help us out, thanks!
As always - where do you enter and exit the country? 'We love historical sites and good food.' - that is a given (almost) anywhere.
We haven't yet decided where we will fly in and out of as this time? I think, having done a little more research, we will definitely want to visit Madrid and Barcelona. We're thinking of trying one more city...maybe Seville or Granada? Or we also hear there are good day trips near Madrid and near Barcelona. Any help is appreciated!
I recoomend Madrid with side trips, Overnight to Toledo, Posada De Manalo (Small hotel/hostel) is excellent..Overnight as the 'feeling' of the city changes when the day tourist leave. AVE train from Atocha Station, Madrid, 25 minutes, non stop. Cathederal, Army Museum in the Alcazar, and any of the many other historical sites that might interest you. I can give you more specifis if you wish, have been there many trips. Sevilla - Exceolent choice, 2 1/2 hours vis AVE from Atocha station. Again, spend at least one night. Many historical in teresting sites there as well. Hotel un Patio en Santa Cruz - excellent location, small hotel in the Jewish Quarter - cenral to all you will want to see. Really Discove Sevilla is a great small tour company. Segovia - Day trip from Madrid....stay over night if you wish, but a full day will let you see the Acqueduct, Alcazar and Cathedral. Madrid - The Royal Palace, with the armory (be sure to see) also the Cathedral de Alumedna, adjacent to the Palace visit the museum and climb to the top of the museum for a fantastic view of the city. Plaza Mayor - history in every cobblestone. San Miguel Market, adjacent to the rear side of the Plaza Mayor.. The Prado - Art Mucsuem extraordinaire. The Park Retrio - a great experience. THis would take your 6 days and fill them with good memories.
You say you "definitely" want to visit Madrid & Barcelona. I think 6 days is barely enough for those 2 cities, including travel time b/t the two. Having said that, I sometimes falter & cram a lot into my schedule myself. If I had 6 full days in Spain and MAD & BCN were my choice cities, I think 3 days in each would be "okay" with the knowledge I would have to travel back there later for more. Nevertheless, if you must, I guess you could add a day side-trip from Madrid to places like Salamanca, Toledo, or Segovia, although that would be pushing it - I think. Sevilla is gorgeous and magical and it deserves an overnight, at least. If you scratched out Barcelona, I think in 6 days you could get a flavor for Madrid, Sevilla + Toledo. That's still quite a bit for 6 days; it all depends on what kind of traveler you are. Cheers.
