Does anyone have any experience with the I AMSTERDAM card? Is it worth getting?
Depends on what you want to do. Husband and I each got one when in Amsterdam a couple years ago, and we used a lot of it. We got the 3-day ones, which are pricey (E50 I think but I'm not sure), but we felt worth it. We got into several museums a lot cheaper (and a lot faster!), plus a canal boat ride and some other things. We're going back this spring and plan to get the cards again.
I've never tried the I AMSTERDAM card. But if you plan on visiting multiple museums in the Netherlands I'd seriously consider buying a Museumkaart. It's 35 euro/adult (17.50 for 24 & under) but good for a year and gets you free admission into most museums in the Netherlands. You can buy it at any participating museum; check www.museumkaart.nl for a listing (in Dutch; "Welke musea doen mee?" link).
we gat it last year and it was well worth the money
I treat the city cards as scavanger hunts trying dillengently to see how much I can see I really dont think I save much but they force me to to really see a lot things i wouldn't normaly see often odd little museums which can be quite intersting
Hi Tom:
I purchased the 48 hour card (43 Euros)when we were there in August. Go to iamsterdamcard.com and it will list all the benefits of the card. Lots of museums, etc, but please note Anne Frank House is not included in this pass.In two days, it was impossible to utilise all the free items, but we certainly made good use of the public transport ticket, so in that respect I thought it was worth it.
The iamsterdam card is $60 and the museumkaart is $49 -- how much would the Public transportation & canal boat tour cost (for 48 hours) WITHOUT the iamsterdam card? Would it pay for itself in that regard?
Does the museumkaart include the Delphi museum? It didn't have that one listed - I plan to go there. Bottom line: It looks as tho these are VERY similar & it's hard to say if one is better than the other. Any new thoughts??
Bonnie- I posed the original question about the I AMTERDAM card in Sept. I am now back from my trip. I didn't get an I AMSTERDAM card. I can see now that was a smart move on my part. It would not have been cost effective for me. I went to a three museums over five days. My biggest museum day would have been the day I went to the Van Gogh and Riksmuseum, I don't think having the I AMSTERDAM card would have made it worth my while.
On the other hand, I am sure many people use it and love it.
