We are a group of five spending one night in Barcelona after a cruise. Our flight leaves at 7:00am, what time should we arrive at the airport? We will be staying near Placa de Catalunya the night before...should we stay closer to the airport instead?

Over the years we've adopted a two-hour rule, that is we plan to be at the airport two hours prior to a flight. If something happens along the way, like a flat tire on the taxi, there's time to handle it. BCN has lots of shops, but I don't know if any will be open that early.

Just in case you were planning on taking the Aerobus to the airport - it doesn't run that early so you will have to take a taxi. I would agree with the 2 hour plan.

We exited our cruise ship at about 5AM. Shared a taxi with another American couple. Our flight was very early and we would NOT have made it if the taxi driver wasn't an aspiring Grand Prix applicant. We "flew" to that airport. We got lucky. Give yourself more than 2 hours IMHO.
