Well I tried to get Eiffel Tower tickets at their online stie, it kept giving me an error message about my credit card.....but then charged my credit card numerous times without giving me tickets. So instead of doing that again, is it necessary to buy tickets online? Can we just show up and get tickets? We are only in Paris one day, so we will only have opportunity to go. Thanks!

You can get tickets at the tower. You will probably have lines. If you're not going in the summer, the lines will not be as bad. If you go at night (the best view, in my opinion, since the haze will have burned off), the lines will be even shorter. I take people there in the spring and fall -- and always at night -- and have never waited more than fifteen minutes. Buying tickets in advance carries the risk of horrible weather at the reserved time making the tickets worthless. My experience will probably not match that of others.
