Thank you. That helps. Do you know if the train will stop at the castle directly or do we need to get off in the station at Montreux and walk up to the castle?
Yes, there are lockers in three different sizes. The Chateau de Chillon train station also has lockers. In fact, most all train stations in Switzerland have lockers.
It would be a long walk. We stayed at Hotel Masson which was a short walk to the Chateau but needed a taxi to get to the hotel from train station. OTOH, without luggage it may be doable. I was slightly underwhelmed by Chillon but many really love it.
You can also take a boat from Montreux to the Chateau. We took the boat and then walked back to Montreux, very beautiful and flat walk along the lakes edge. We are not hikers and it was doable for us. It had been a recommendation by our hotel in Lausanne. Check out the Chateau website: under the Practical tab, is Access - and that will tell you how far the Chateau is from the boat, train, etc.

You're welcome. I believe only local trains stop at the castle, the IC trains usually don't stop. You can check the exact stops your train makes at the Swiss Rail site http://rail.ch
There is also a bus that goes to the castle. I would recommend taking the boat to the castle, then the bus (or take a long walk) back. Be sure to buy a bus ticket.....machines are usually on the bus or at the stop.
I loved Chillon...but that's the romantic in me.
If you are a fan of Queen, there is also a stature of Freddy Mercury on the waterfront in Montreux.

If you have a Swiss Pass, that will covers the bus fare, and also admission to the Chateau.
I would totally go see the Freddy statue!!!! :-D
Thanks to all for the advice. As it turned out we were unable to see the castle. After passing it on the train and getting off at Montreux we found that all of the lockers were full except for two tiny ones. We could not figure out where else to go to store our luggage so we proceeded on to Lausanne to our hotel .If anyone has any ideas for us as to where to store luggage in the future I would be very interested in hearing them.
Most of the larger stations also have a luggage hold counters in addition to lockers. You also have the option of sending your bags ahead to your final destination for pickup. You have to do this by 9am for same-day service. You can check which services are available at each station here:
