We are staying in Bayeux for one night and are wondering if we need to reserve our train tickets ahead of time. We will be going on the 4th of August and returning the evening of the 5th. We were hoping to just get our tickets when we arrive in Paris on the 29th for this round trip. Suggestions?
So long as you're willing to pay full fare, you won't have a problem getting seats if you wait until you get to Paris to buy your tickets. However, I just checked the tgv-europe site and saw that discount fare tickets are still available for both August 4 and 5. The time to book them is NOW.
The tgv-europe site no longer bumps people to the Rail Europe site who say they live in Canada, so you can get discount fares by listing your true country of residence. (That still doesn't work for those of us who live in the US. Unless we choose Great Britain, we get bumped to the RE site which doesn't offer discount fares.)
