first time traveling to Europe and will be by myself the first leg. need step by step instructions on how to get from the Air France terminal to my hotel. Door to door taxi's are out of my budget and I have a horrible sense of direction. thanks you in advance for your guidance.
Diana,
We stayed at the Hotel Jeanne d'Arc last October after arriving at Gare du Nord on the Eurostar. Before leaving home we had telephoned the hotel and the folks kindly explained which subway to take, station to get off, etc.
So as Steve explained you could take the RER from CDG to Gare du Nord and then either the subway and walk a few blocks to the hotel, or a taxi from the train station to the hotel.
Or, as he said, take the Super Shuttle from airport to hotel.
Good luck.
Diana, once you get to Gare du Nord, transfer to Metro Line 5 (Direction Place d'Italie). Get off at Bastille and take Metro Line 1 (Direction La Defense)and get off at the first stop, St. Paul. Your hotel's web site has a map you can then follow to walk the few minutes to its front door. I have stayed at that hotel a couple of times. Two useful websites for first time visitors to Paris are www.parisbytrain.com and www.tomsguidetoparis.com
I suggest that you bring a compass to supplement a map. Metro stations can have several exits and a compass is very helpful in becoming orientated after getting to street level. It's also a good guide if you explore a bit of Paris on foot.
